Drupal 7 was released on January 5, 2011. Due to the impact of the corona pandemic on corporate budgets, the end-of-life of Drupal 7 has been significantly extended again and again, but the final end-of-life will come on January 5, 2025. In fact, Drupal 7 is still very popular. Anyone still running a Drupal 7 installation should urgently migrate or upgrade.

Drupal 8 was released on November 19, 2015. Compared to the previous version, Drupal 8 has taken a big step forward. This has maintained the technical relevance and future viability of Drupal. There were also significant improvements in the area of backend usability. The aim at the time was to establish Drupal 8 as a mature Open Source Enterprise CMS. Furthermore, version 8 followed the inevitable trend towards the mobile Internet. Drupal 8 had its end-of-life before Drupal 7, namely on November 2, 2021. Anyone still running a Drupal 8 installation should urgently start a migration and / or an upgrade.
